Benedictine University's History

Benedictine University was founded in 1887 and secured a charter from the state of Illinois in 1890. Formerly designated as a college, Benedictine became coeducational in 1968 and was renamed Illinois Benedictine College in 1971. Currently known as Benedictine University, the school's campus covers 108 acres and is surrounded by a scenic campus lake, has a student center with dining halls, a bookstore and meeting rooms, and has a sports complex that provides top quality fields for adult students to participate in a variety of sports.
